Home Economics

Tutor – Crystal Brown

Course Description

In Home Economics, we’ll split our time between sewing projects and creating in the kitchen.  For the first half of the semester, we’ll learn basic hand-sewing and embroidery stitches, using these skills on multiple projects.  The second half of the semester will be spent primarily in the kitchen, where we’ll be playing with different flavors each week.  Herbs and aromatics will have a starring role!  For example, one week we may get to know basil; the goal will be to know what it looks like, smells like, tastes like, and how to use it in the kitchen in multiple ways.  We will also discuss a few kitchen basics and compare family recipes for similarities and differences as we learn which flavors we prefer to use together.

This class will not require any textbooks and is of average difficulty.  It is for students who are willing to work hard and try new things in a hands-on classroom environment.
