Tutor – Maggie Kavanaugh
This one-semester course is a combination of public speaking and leadership.
This comprehensive course equips students with the tools to overcome the fear of public
speaking, build self-confidence, and step into leadership roles with assurance. Participants will
learn to create and deliver various types of speeches, master the art of improvisation, and
conduct effective presentations.
Through interactive activities, including mock Toastmasters meetings, students will refine their
communication skills while exploring different leadership styles and understanding how to apply
them in real-world situations. The course emphasizes practical strategies for leading with clarity,
inspiring others, and displaying leadership in diverse settings.
Objectives of this Course:
● To overcome the fear of public speaking and build confidence.
● To develop effective body language and action in speaking.
● To create the ability to arrange ideas and structure speeches.
● To learn vocal variety and explore various speech styles.
● To evaluate speeches and provide constructive feedback.
● To understand leadership styles and how to apply them.
● To demonstrate an understanding of the multiple purposes of public speaking.
● To complete diverse leadership roles in mock Toastmasters meetings.
● To demonstrate team-building skills through collaborative activities.

throughout the course of this class. We have no way of controlling what pictures,
sites, or information they may stumble upon when interacting with others on the
internet.
The textbook manual/ folder costs $10 and is provided by the tutor. (this is separate from the copy fee and should be purchased from the tutor on Orientation Day).
This course is recommended for grade levels 7-12.
The difficulty level of this class is “average”.
